This module will address the key contribution that people make to improving organisational performance. In particular it will focus on performance management and meeting the strategic goals of the organisation through effective human resource and financial planning, evaluation and monitoring. It will critically explore the key HR functions of recruitment and selection, appraisal, training and development and rewards systems. This module recognises the crucial responsibility of line managers in developing individuals and will explore the move towards ‘managers as developers’ reflecting research that demonstrates that employees with effective, engaging line managers value them highly, and that their development focus is a key reason why they are perceived to be good managers. This module will explore theoretical underpinning and practical strategies to be employed by line managers in creating effective developmental relationships with team members.

This module is a part of the core modules in the CIPD accredited Post Graduate Diploma/MSc in Human Resource Management. The program will give you the key skills and expertise which will enable you to make a significant contribution to people management practice within any organisation.

Aimed at both newly-qualified graduates and those already working in the field of people management, as well as individuals who see their careers developing in this direction, both the Post Graduate Diploma and the MSc are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) as an advanced-level qualification and provides you (on successful completion) with Associate Membership of CIPD. The course has been designed with flexibility in mind and is delivered by experienced HR practitioners through a structured online programme.

Fyrirkomulag fjarnáms

Námið er í 100% fjarnámi og kennt á ensku. 

Námskeið hefst í byrjun september og eru síðustu verkefnaskil í desember en önninni líkur í janúar.

Námið fer alfarið fram á netinu og er sett upp frá grunni sem fjarnám fyrir vinnandi fólk. Hvað þýðir það fyrir þig? Að þú ert einn af fjölmörgum fjarnemum í náminu, þið hittist á fjarfundum (sem eru þó valkvæðir) og þú upplifir þig sem hluta af hópnum en ekki fyrir utan hópinn sem er allur staddur "on campus" eins og mörg önnur fjarnám eru sett upp. Fjarfundir eru utan hefðbundins vinnutíma og verkefnin fjölbreytt og unnin út frá eigin reynslu.

Efnisskrá

Námskeiðið eru 20 SCQF (skoskar einingar) sem jafngildir 10 ECTS.

By the end of the module, students will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse theories and concepts relating to human resource planning and performance management and the role it plays in improving organisational performance.
  2. Critically assess methods to measure and evaluate individual and team performance, including the interpretation of financial information and the management of financial resources, exploring approaches designed to support the development of high performance.
  3. Critically analyse theories and concepts relating to individual development exploring how development can impact on individuals, the team and organisation.
  4. Analyse, and reflect, on the role of the line manager in identifying and applying suitable developmental approaches designed to resolve team and organisational challenges and opportunities.

Indicative Content

Introduction to human resource planning and resourcing: HR strategies; recruitment; selection.

Introduction to performance management (PM): evaluation of the development of performance management; internal and external factors which impact upon PM; ethics and PM; role of PM in contemporary organisations; strategic goals and PM.

Measuring and evaluating performance: output and process evaluation measures; interpret financial information and resources; competency and standards frameworks; the appraisal/review process.

Introduction to individual development: organisational role of training and development; line manager roles and responsibilities; development needs analysis, design and evaluation.

Creating the developmental relationship: effective feedback; listening to team members and encouraging development; focusing on priorities; application of learning theories.

Developmental approaches and methods: theory and practice; selecting the right development method; new approaches to employee development; action learning, coaching and mentoring.

Students must achieve an overall mean average of 50% across all elements of assessment to pass the module. Two summative assessments which will require students to critically evaluate the theories of HR planning and performance management and apply this to the organisational context.

Essay, 60% weight - 3.000 words with submission in week 7.

Short answer question exam, 40% weight - 1.500 words with submission in week 14.

Inntökuskilyrði

Til að komast inn í námið hjá UHI þurfa nemendur að hafa lokið grunngráðu á háskólastigi (180 ECTS einingar). Undantekningar hafa verið gerðar á þessu skilyrði og hvetjum við því umsækjendur sem hafa starfað lengi í mannauðsmálum til að sækja um og við skoðum málið með UHI. Umsóknarfrestur er til 15. ágúst (ef þú ert ekki með grunngráðu mælum við með að senda inn umsókn ekki seinna en 15. júlí).

Nemendur þurfa að senda inn ferilskrá, prófskírteini (á ensku) og skannaða mynd af vegabréfi á simenntunha@unak.is 
Mat umsókna fer eftir árangri í fyrra námi og störfum eftir útskrift. 

Umsóknarferlið er tvíþætt, fyrst eru gögn send til Símenntunar HA og umsókn yfirfarin. Þegar hún hefur verið samþykkt af Símenntun HA eru nemendur sendir inn á umsóknarferli hjá UHI þar sem umsóknin er fullkláruð. ATH að gott er að senda öll gögn frá upphafi inn á ensku.

Verð fyrir stakan áfanga er kr. 155.000.

Hægt er að skrá sig í heildarnám - Meistaragráðu í mannauðsstjórnun við UHI HÉR í gegnum Símenntun HA.
